Local Skiing Update from Bridger Nordic
Greetings from Bridger Creek:
Thanksgiving is one of the milestones of the typical ski season and about the time when groomed Nordic trails become available. Clearly, this year is an anomaly. There are many ski options this year. The main event in Nordic skiing this week is the annual Ski Festival in West Yellowstone. Typically several thousand skiers from the region and beyond converge on West Yellowstone for training and racing. Top-flight skiers will be racing this year since the races count toward qualification for the Canadian and US Olympic Teams. The “SuperTour” race series comes to Bozeman the weekend of Dec 5-6.
The current situation:
Bridger Creek: Groomed yesterday for the first time this season for skate and classic. Please park in the golf course parking lot on McIlhattan Road. No dogs allowed. I am looking for a volunteer with a snow plow to plow the golf course lot a few times this year—anybody have a truck and plow?
Lindley: Excellent skiing for classic and skating; I skied there yesterday.
Bohart: 11/25/09–7:30 a m. 26 degrees. 1 inch snow last 24 hrs, partly cldy, yesterday high 34. * OPEN to Season Pass Holders Only. Caution and Rock Skis advised. Please remember to Sign-in.* * Snow-mo rolling today. *
West Yellowstone: Rendezvous and Dead Dog with skate and classic. Volunteer with best line classic for sprints. Biathlon Range, parts of Deja, Sprint loop, Meadow and assorted cutoffs skate only for today’s Biathlon races. Outer half of Deja View with skate and classic. Cold, minus 2, no new snow, lots of skiers and continued grooming are starting to expose a few dirt patches, but overall skiing is very good for November.
Bozeman Creek: Not groomed. Serious grooming here hasn’t started yet. The trail has been packed with snowmobiles once with an emphasis on cutting out trees that got knocked down during the big snowfall. Grooming will ramp up after Thanksgiving.
Hyalite: Ungroomed, waiting for Forest Service permission to initiate grooming.
Snowfill: Groomed on Sunday before the snow—no tracks, packed 10-12 feet wide. This venue will be infrequently groomed this year due difficulty keeping a decent ski trail. Heavy usage by dog walkers limits the practicality of grooming despite the beautiful terrain. This venue has become VERY popular with sledders and dog walkers.
