These are the outlines I will use for the skate clinics tomorrow. Please feel free to print them out and add your own notes, and refer back to them as needed. If there was something that really helped you, please let me know. It is always good to hear what little thing really made a difference in improvement.

Beginning Skate Clinic – 12/12/09

  1. Basic Body Position
    1. Ankle Bend
      1. i.      Sink into your boot/foot
      2. ii.      Drive your knee into your ski
    2. Hips Forward
      1. i.      Tucked tail
      2. ii.      Forward lean
    3. Slumped shoulders
      1. i.      Rounded back/shoulders – slumped
  2. Basic lateral push off
    1. Entire foot
    2. Weight on balls of feet
    3. Directly to the side
  3. Side-to-Side – no skis
    1. Relaxed
    2. Weight transfer
    3. Efficient Power
  4. 4 Square
    1. Correct/incorrect/correct
  5. Skis
    1. Side-to-side
    2. Step drill – light feet
      1. i.      Tips & tails
      2. ii.      turns
    3. No poles – lateral push
    4. Relaxed leg – sinking into boot
  6. Forward lean – potty position
    1. Minions last dance
  7. No pole skiing
    1. Complete weight transfer
    2. Saddle feet
